Order of Adjectives
Definition:
Adjectives representing a group or an attribute usually occur in a specific order. Adjectives follows the attribute/orders given below:
- Quantity or number
- Quality or opinion
- Size
- Age
- Shape
- Color
- Proper adjective (often nationality, other place of origin, or material)
- Purpose or qualifier
E.g., An amazing new American comic book.
Here, amazing falls into the quality attribute, new falls into the age attribute and American fall into the proper adjective attribute, hence the order we follow is quality, age and proper adjective and we can form the sentence above.
When there are two or more adjectives that are from the same group/attribute, the word and is placed between the two adjectives
E.g., My room is painted red and white.
When there are three or more adjectives from the same adjective group/attribute, place a comma between each of the coordinate adjectives
E. g., He drives around a red, black and yellow pickup truck.
A comma is not be place between the adjective and the noun.
